                                                                                R. Douglas Mansfield – Architect/Founder

Doug is a Southern California native whose vision and approach to architecture have been shaped by decades of experiences, culture, and history found throughout the Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego communities, as well as through his many travels.  Doug’s passion for art and creativity began at an early age. As a young surfer, he spent countless hours drawing waves, surfers, and imaginary surf destinations. That early fascination with art, movement, and place eventually evolved into a passion to create homes, communities and places.  Armed with his creative drive, Doug pursued architectural studies at a local college. After graduating, he set his sights on becoming a licensed architect. While raising a family, he self-studied at home in the evenings and, in 1983, began the professional apprenticeship process that would shape his career.  Over the following years, Doug gained invaluable experience working alongside talented mentor architects and developing what would become his own approach to design. He successfully attained his architectural license in 1992.  In 1997, driven by a desire to provide a higher level of design, personal service, and craftsmanship, he founded R. Douglas Mansfield Architect, Inc.  Doug takes great pride in the many successful projects completed throughout his career and, perhaps even more importantly, in the lifelong friendships and relationships that have grown from them. His work is rooted in a belief that architecture should have heart and soul—that a well-designed project should not simply look beautiful, but should reflect the heart and soul of the people that inhabit them.  Today, Doug’s quest for excellence continues with the same passion and creativity that inspired him from the beginning.
